Hibi Incense Matches

Incense has been used for thousands of years within religious and spiritual spaces to elevate divine energy & enhance meditation, prayer, & healing practices. This practice is also now common in our yoga studios, wellness offices & our own homes.

Using incense can be very calming, and the scents can be used for aromatherapy purposes. Different fragrances are known to have different effects, such as lavender – which can help with relaxation, or citrus -which may be invigorating. It is thought that certain incense scents can affect the body’s endocrine system, changing your mood, and enhancing your overall wellbeing.

When burning incense, the smoke created contains a range of chemicals, both natural and synthetic, that can be harmful to our health. The inhalable particulate matter can irritate the respiratory system, leading to coughing, wheezing, and bronchitis. Some studies have even found that exposure to incense smoke can increase the risk of cancer.

It is recommended to burn incense only in well-ventilated areas, and not continuously for more than 10 minutes at a time. It is also important to avoid using it near children or pets, and never use incense if the surface that it’s being burned on is flammable.

Hibi incense matches combine the tradition of matchbox-making (established in 1929 as a local industry) with incense-making expertise from Harima on Awaji Island. Hibi’s founder took three and a half years to perfect the process of combining paper pulp with incense powder to create this one-of-a-kind aromatic product.

The hibi incense matches are designed to be lit like a regular match, but they smoulder rather than burn, leaving behind an aroma for around ten minutes. They are the perfect way to take a quick aromatherapy break, on the go or at home. They come in a handy, portable box, and include a non-flammable mat for you to place your incense match on.

Light the hibi incense match by pressing its tip against the brown rough area on the back of the inner box, as you would a regular match. It will smoulder, leaving behind an aroma for about ten minutes, and can then be placed in a non-flammable ashtray. The hibi incense matches can be used in bathrooms, sick rooms, cars, at work, while travelling, or anywhere you want to add some fragrance or eliminate odor. Each incense match comes with 30 scented incense matches, each lasting for about 10 minutes.
