Incense In a Sentence

Incense burns clean, and it is often the first thing people think about when the word “incense” comes to mind. And it is a necessary addition to any language. And while it may not seem important from a formal perspective, understanding the intricacies of incense usage can be of utmost importance in everyday communication. Incense is important in religions, ceremonies and in everyday life.

Incense sticks are part of a religious tradition in some religions; the use of incense in a sentence is often seen as a way to offer thanks or invoke a higher power. Incense is typically associated with shrines like Ganesh in Hinduism and Buddha in Buddhism. Sentence examples like “The incense stick was lit when the president was born.”

The second example above is more common and may be less offensive to non-religious people. “I see incense sticks on the table.” “I see incense sticks on the table when he eats.” Both of these sentences display the act of burning incense as a symbolic gesture, but they also show that there is a correlation between incense burning and food preparation.

Incense sticks can be lit as a sign of thanks, or they can be used to get the body in a certain mood. In the example above, the act of lighting the stick shows that thanks is being offered. It also shows that the subject in the sentence (the president) is grateful for the good things that happen to him. It’s a nice subtle way to phrase the idea that thanks is a good thing to do.

Another example is a question: “I see incense burning at my favorite church.” Rather than say, “I see incense burning in the church,” this question puts the subject of worship into the picture. The religious connotations of burning incense is very important for any sentence that contains it.

Incense can be used to mood, so it’s important to think about what effect you want to create when using it in writing. Do you want to create an air of mystery? Do you want to heighten the senses and bring them to a heightened level? Or do you simply want people to take note of the beautiful sights and scents that are added by incenses?
